My Sister's Keeper is based on a true story and narrarted by Ana Fitzgerald. Ana Fitzgerald starts the story by discribing why and how she was brought to this world, the purpose of her being; which was to help her little sister out, Kate. Since Kate has Leukemia (diagnosed in 1990), Ana also has to undergo medical procedures everytime Kate gets sick. The setting of the first Chapter is taken place at a PawnShop in which Ana was pawing a locket her dad Brian, had given her when she first donated bone marrow to Kate. You can descirbe Ana's family as a very unoriented family. Her mom Sara, is a shopoholic and her older brother Jesse, is considered to be a delincuent since her parents don't have time to care for him. Anna sees an Ad on a newspaper of a lawyer named Cambell which is brought to her attention because she wants to sue her parents for the right to her own body, medical emancipation.
  1. What was your personal reaction to this reading selection? My personal reaction to this reading selection was very sentimental and shows the kinship within this family. It teaches you how to truly vaule the people you have in your life.
  2. What do you believe the author’s intent was, and what patterns of organization did you observe? The author's intent was to teach people to value those in which are in your lives and if one can do the impossible to save someones elses life, GO FOR IT! It  also demonstrates the seriousness of Leukemia. Order of Importance was used as the pattern of organization.
